Welcome to AIRInforma

Public dissemination of science is often negatively affected by biased, incorrect information distributed over the world wide web through social networks and weblogs. In Italy, the lack of correct scientific information has generated several important issues, raising concerns by the international scientific community in several occasions over the past five years. Our association AIRIcerca (International Association of Italian Researchers) has recently started a novel scientific dissemination initiative to the general public in Italy.

The AIRInforma project was conceived by scientists who use their scientific expertise to gather and publish scientific news and concepts, explained using simple yet accurate language.

This poster presented at the EGU meeting 2015 provides an overview of the AIRInforma project. More information and high-resolution download available at F1000 posters.

Our editorial process is based on that used in peer-reviewed scientific publications; each article is written and reviewed by experts in the field to guarantee thoroughness and reliability of the information. Our editorial board introduced a further step of revision by non-experts to ensure that the article is also clear and simple to understand for the public at large. At the moment our full-text contents are currently available only in Italian, because at present we address the Italian public, but for convenience, we provide abstracts of all our publications in English as well. So far, AIRInforma has established a novel channel of scientific communication in Italy, receiving excellent feedback and reaching several thousands unique visitors every month through our website and social network communication pages.

We are passionate about science outreach; we believe in the direct role of scientists in public engagement and understanding of science.
