The main function of a peripheral nerve is to transmit signals and sensory information to and from the central nervous system. In case of injury or a health disorder, this communication with the central nervous system can be partially or totally disrupted, causing a reduction of the normal physiological functions. Researchers are now looking for new strategies and materials to repair the neural interconnection in case of gap injury. This article discusses the use of recent nanotechnology approaches designed to promote neural regeneration.
