AIRIcerca, the virtual home for Italian researchers, becomes Association

In 2013 Lorenzo Agoni and Luca Cassetta had an idea: build a network that would connect the Italian reasearchers working all over the world. With this in mind, they created AIRIcerca, the International Association of Italian Researchers; it all started with a Facebook group but 2 years later, thanks to the enthusiasm of many that joined the project, AIRIcerca is a no-profit association able to connect more than eleven thousand people all over the world through the social media.

In this editorial published by AIRInforma, the science popularization project of AIRIcerca, the two founders describe how they conceived and created the association, how it is organized, the mission and future challenges of AIRIcerca.
