Regulatory lymphocytes: a magic bullet still searching for its path

Contrary to other lymphocyte populations, regulatory lymphocytes play an immune suppressive role by inhibiting the activation of the immune response, to prevent auto-immune or unnecessary reactions. Many tumors take advantage of the activity of regulatory lymphocytes to hack our immune system. Therefore, novel strategies of manipulation of regulatory lymphocytes could be beneficial for the treatment of several types of cancer, in addition to autoimmune diseases and allergy.
